peru airport taxi driver tried to scam me
I landed in Peru 28/11/2014, and my first experience was that the taxi driver wanted to scam me. I was about to order an Uber, the app said 30 sol about 20 minutes, then a taxi driver approached me begging to take me. I felt sorry and decided to give him the job. We agreed to 30 sol. Then when we got to my address, he said 30 x 3.5 = 105 sol. He said pay me 100 sol claiming 30 dollar not 30sol. I told him, "Are you serious? You want to scam me? You are not changing the agreement." He showed me a picture of prices with dollars converted to sol on his phone, pretending it's the prices they go by. I told him it's probably fake, it has no stamp. You could print one like this. Don't try to fool me. You're not getting more than 30 sol. I was planning to give him 10 sol extra, just forget about it. He said, "Then pay 90 sol." I said no. He insisted. I said no. He said 70 sol. I said no. We agreed to 30 sol. He refused. I told him, "Let me ask that guy how much is a taxi from the airport to here he was the security guy for the apartment an old man." The guy sadly couldn't understand English. The taxi jumped in and convinced him. Then the apartment agent got convinced and told me to pay him. He said is right if I understood. Then another resident of the apartments was passing by. I asked him. He told me 30 sol. I was shocked how the taxi driver insisted on scamming me. His face turned shame on. He started begging me to pay him 90 sol. I said, "You're not scamming me." Then another agent came in and asked the resident to not interfere. The taxi driver talked to him also, if I understood. The good guy told the taxi driver it's not good what you're doing and mentioned the government to him. Then the taxi driver took me a little away to talk to me, asking me to pay him 50 sol. Then the good guy from long distance secretly signaling to me to not believe him. I told the taxi driver, "I'll pay you 50 sol, but I'll take a picture of your car tag and report you to the police." He got scared and said, "Pay me 30 sol." I paid him 30 sol. He started telling me the parking lot cost him 20 sol at the airport and he was only making 10 sol for this ride. It's not fair. I lost hope in believing this guy anyway. I decided to give him an extra 10 sol and let it go. The taxi driver told me, "Do not use Uber. They will kill you.", my trip to peru will continue.
